Three Takeaways: Sirens Earn Another Third Period Comeback Win In Home Finale

The New York Sirens returned to the Prudential Center for their final home game of the 2025-26 season on April 15. The Sirens were taking on the Sceptres, a team ahead of them in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot. After losing their previous game, it looked like this one was going to be tough as the Sirens were down by two goals almost halfway through the third period until, once again, New York turned the game around and secured another third period comeback win. The Sirens secured an important three points which helped them in the standings and they gave the home crowd something to cheer about for what might’ve been their last game at the Rock if they don’t make the postseason. Here are the biggest three takeaways from the Sirens’ 3-2 comeback victory over the Sceptres.

1. Playoff Race Gets Tighter

As previously mentioned, the Sirens earned a big three points to help them move up in the league standings. With the win, New York moves into a tie with Toronto for fifth place as each team now has 34 points. The Sirens are now just two points behind the Ottawa Charge, the team that holds the final playoff spot. To make it even more interesting, every team in the PWHL has played 27 games so far this season which means no one has a game in hand in the extremely tight race to make the postseason. As a reminder, the Sirens are the only team of the Inaugural Six that has not made the playoffs yet so the pressure is on to grab the crucial points in the remaining three games. New York’s remaining schedule features three road games in which they will play Ottawa, Toronto and Boston. The Sirens have been much better at home than on the road this season so time will tell if they make the final push to secure a playoff spot.

2. Home Sweet Home

The Sirens are the first team in the PWHL this season to finish out their home schedule and they did so in style. The 3-2 win over the Sceptres on Wednesday gave the Sirens a 7-2-2-4 record on home ice (including Takeover Tour games) this season. Their seven home wins ranked fourth most in the league and the 27 points they earned in home games is tied with the Fleet for the third most in the PWHL this season. Plus, the win on Wednesday was their fourth home win in a row, setting a new single-season team record for the longest home win streak, and it’s the longest active home win streak in the PWHL. On top of the positive results, the crowds at Sirens home games this season have grown exponentially. Over 6,000 fans attended Wednesday’s contest, setting a new weeknight crowd record and on March 8, a new overall home attendance record was set when 8,264 people attended the game against the Charge.

Kayle Osborne spoke about how important the fans have been for the team this season and how they are helping during this playoff push. “It’s honestly incredible. We talk about it in the room. When we look around and it’s a pretty packed lower bowl, it’s super exciting and the fans are so helpful. And honestly in making this playoff push, when they’re loud and into it, we get one and they’re so into the game and honestly we just feed off of it. The fans are a huge part of this playoff push for us.”

3. Fillier Makes History Again

Sarah Fillier recorded a secondary assist on Maja Nylen Persson’s second period goal to give her 50 career points. She became the 15th player in PWHL history to record 50 points, but even more remarkable is that she reached the mark in just 56 games which makes her the second fastest player to reach 50 career points, behind only Marie-Philip Poulin (53 GP). Plus, Fillier reached the milestone in just her second season and she became the first player in PWHL history to record 50 points who didn’t play in the inaugural season. Making history is a common occurrence for Fillier and this is just another record for her already impressive PWHL career. And the Sirens are incredibly lucky to have a player of her caliber on the roster who is an offensive force who is also one of the most well-rounded players in the league.

The Sirens are back in action on Saturday, April 18th as they take on the Charge at TD Place with puck drop scheduled for 2 PM EDT. The playoff push continues down the stretch and it will be interesting to see how it pans out for New York.
